Available in the UK from 18 October 2021, Sky Glass is a streaming TV which integrates hardware, software and content, and unlike smart TVs, is the only one with Sky programming inside. With no need for a satellite dish, a set top box, and certified carbon neutral, Sky Glass is set to be a real gamechanger in the way that we enjoy TV – so what does it involve?
The highest spec
Top of the range in every sense, Sky Glass TVs come with Ultra 4K HD and Quantum Dot technology for the highest quality picture – in over a billion colours – along with 10-bit HDR screen technology which supports HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision, while an integrated speaker system delivers 360° Dolby Atmos sound, with built in speakers and a sub-woofer.
A WiFi speed of just 10Mbps is all that’s needed, and the good news is that most homes will have that – and of course, if you are worried about your connection speed or would like it to be hardwired for extra reliability, we will always be happy to help.
If your internet connection does ever falter and lose connection, the Sky Glass comes with a digital tuner, so you can still watch the standard free channels while you wait for your connection to return.
Available in three different sizes – 43”, 55” and 65” – and five colourways (Anthracite Black, Ceramic White, Ocean Blue, Racing Green and Dusky Pink), there will be a size and look to suit most tastes, and each TV comes with a matching remote.
But you don’t have to use the remote – you can just say “Hello Sky” and use voice control to find your next thing to watch or listen to, or create playlists.
Each set comes with a two year warranty.
Sky Glass and TV packages
There are different ways to purchase Sky Glass, and it’s worth bearing in mind that while it comes with the ability to stream Sky TV, you have to purchase a separate TV package, if you’re not already a customer. You can either buy the TV outright, (at £649 for the 43”, £849 for the 55” or £1,049 for the 65”) or pay in monthly instalments, at a higher rate, over a 24 or 48 month contract.
As with any Sky TV package, there are different deals available, including Sky TV with Sports or Movies or both, or even with the addition of Netlix included in the same subscription – Mediacoms are a Sky Approved Partner, please get in touch with us for our latest deals.
Additional ways to watch
Like any Sky subscription, there’s the option for a multiroom contract, and it’s no different with Sky Glass – you can add the Whole Home package at an additional cost, along with additional hardware in the form of Sky Stream Puck, also at an additional cost, with up to six connections.
With a mid-October release date, if you’re feeling extra generous this year, this could be the answer to what gift you get someone who’s got everything, for Christmas, or could be a chance to treat yourself. Either way, it’s likely that we are seeing the future now in Sky Glass.
