A wall mounted TV installation may be the answer to improving your home theatre experience at home. (Read more about wall mounted TV.)
While mounting a TV can be done DIY- style, it must be done by someone who actually has know-how with TVs and installations. Sufficient expertise is required in this job, as you have to determine – among other things – if the wall can withstand the weight of the TV. Manufacturers usually recommend that any TV installation should only be done by a qualified technician or engineer.
Ideally, this job is all about three steps:
1) attach the TV plate to the TV
2) screw the wall plate to the wall
3) attach the TV and wall plates and adjust as needed
But it is not as easy as it sounds. There are a number of safety precautions that an installer has to take before starting work on a wall mounted TV installation.
Before initiating any work – especially if you plan to hide the cables, check your local fire laws and regulations. Use only in- wall installation rated models for cables that will go inside your walls. Clear the area behind the wall before cutting. When drilling through fire blocks or floors, they must be patched with a comparable or fire resistant material in accordance with local codes. Turn the power off before you start drilling or cutting and unplug your TV and other components before connecting them together.
If you are doing the installation yourself, make sure you read the manufacturer’s manual first. Also get at least two people to help you out. Make sure you have all the necessary tools on hand such as a drill, level, stud finder, mounting hardware, wrench and tape measure.
