Aerials: What are they?
TV aerials are also known as TV antennas. They are designed to allow you to get a hold of better cable channel reception, over you cable TV’s. The length of an antenna’s parts (called elements) corresponds to half of the wavelength of the reception or signal they are to receive.
Aerials install can either be indoor or outdoor. There are also several types of antennas based on size and design. These are the dipole, also known as rabbit ears, the loop aerial, and bigger antennas called the yagi and log periodic.
Aerials: Where do you put them?
Indoor antennas obviously receive less signal, as they are enclosed in your home. They are usually attached behind the TV set. Outdoor antennas are designed to improve your cable reception.
Usually placed on rooftops, aerials are best to be installed by professional installers who have the training and accreditation in doing the job. There are several dangers that go along with aerial install. The following are some of them:
1) There is always the danger of falling if you do the installation job without proper equipment to secure your balance on your roof.
2) Aerials are electric conductors and are known to attract lighting. Handling them without proper knowledge or training can be highly dangerous.
In fact, Rod Hull, a popular British TV entertainer in the 70’s and 80’s, died after taking a fall from his roof. He was trying to adjust the aerial as he wanted to get a better reception for a football game he was watching.
