In terms of transforming your space, a wall-mounted TV can have an enormous impact, giving you more space and making your room more elegant.
With such a big impact in a room we spend so much time in, it’s important not to rush out and pick up a wall bracket and drill straight away. First, ask how well you can do the job, and whether you can do it as well as someone who does that work all the time. With expertise and the right tools, your TV will be securely well mounted, so that it will be a sound, long term investment.
Not all walls are made equally
While there will of course always be a TV bracket, how it is attached depends on the type of wall – ie brick, concrete or drywall. Masonry anchors would be needed on concrete to keep an installation sturdy, and a toggle bolt would be used for drywall.
Walls can also be damaged and uneven, which can impact the alignment of brackets. Often professionals can spot potential issues and address them immediately.
If you don’t use the correct brackets or installation techniques, you will jeopardise the TV’s security in the long run. A professional will be used to calculating weight limits and accounting for how this impacts different installation types. With the weight of TVs, if they fall, the damage could by extensive and costly.
Do you need the stress?
If we said, as professionals, it takes around one-two hours to mount a TV, how long do you think it could take you? It’s likely not to be straightforward, as new projects can lead to frustration, which is likely to add some time and stress on.
Safe today and tomorrow
Another thing about walls is, you need to make sure you know what’s inside them. Hidden electrical wires are not something you want to stumble across while drilling. Brackets need to be able to support 1.5 times the weight of your TV, ensuring a secure hold, to reduce the risk of accidents.
Unfortunately, improperly mounted TVs pose risks – and over 20,000 injuries from falling televisions happen every year (according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission). When children and pets are involved, this risk becomes even more urgent to avoid.
