Indoor aerials are aerials that are installed inside the premises. It can be placed on top of the receiver or it can be installed in attics.

Pros and Cons of Indoor Aerials

Each aerial is different and there are options on where you can possibly install your aerials at home. Here you are presented with the advantages (and disadvantages) of getting an indoor aerial.

Indoor aerials generally would get a fraction of the signal strength. That is because the aerial is installed at a lower height compared to the one that’s installed on top of a roof. The reduced signal is also caused by the roofing materials and the roof tiles that blocks it.

Aside from the roofing materials, there are several other reasons why you have poor reception despite getting an indoor aerial. They are:

1.   Hills, trees or buildings that could possibly block the TV transmitter’s sight path.

2.   Water Tanks. Aerials should be installed behind it.

3.   Stuff in the Attic. This is especially true if there are a lot of metallic items there that could de-tune the aerial.

4.   Impulse noise problems can break up the picture. You will notice that the picture will momentarily freeze.

On the aesthetic side, indoor aerials are not seen by the public. Your property will be free from objects outside that may be a little distracting to look at, like for example, aerials installed on the rooftop. Another good reason to install an indoor aerial is that it is not exposed to certain weather conditions that may cause damage. It is not exposed to rain or snow or the heat from the sun therefore increasing its life expectancy.
