Generally, hotels provide TV service to their guests. This can range from giving access to local, cable and satellite channels for free to paid services if the guests would like to have access to certain movies and other services. This prompts hotels to set up a cost effective yet efficient hotel television system set up and as a hotel owner, you are faced with several options.
Hotel TV System Options
Integrated Reception System (IRS) – tv, radio and satellite signals are collected by an array of aerials and satellite dishes installed and they are being distributed to different locations or users. Freeview, DAB, Sky and Freesat are mostly distributed and it can cover block of flats.
Master Antenna TV (MATV) – It is somewhat similar to IRS. The only difference is that it doesn’t distribute satellite signals and it’s easier to set up.
Satellite Master Antenna TV (SMATV) – This system is similar to MATV and they are often used in gyms and hotels. With SMATV, you are able to distribute some satellite TV channels.
Fibre Integrated Reception System (FIRS) – It functions the same as the IRS and unlike the IRS, fibre cable is used instead of coax cable in the set up. With FIRS you are able to distribute satellite signals on greater distance because fibre cables have higher bandwidth.
