Types of TV

Below are the types of TV that you will find today:

  • Cheap TVs – You don’t need to spend a whole lot to get a good TV. Depending on the screen size, Best Buy TVs are available for less than £500. Prices are even lower if you are not looking for types of TV with 3D or smart TV features. Consider who will use the TV, and where you will place it in the house. If you are looking for a family TV for the kids or a second TV in your kitchen, then you won’t need to spend a lot.
  • Smart TV – This is a TV that is connected to the internet that lets you get online services on yout TV such as social networking, catch up TV and film streaming.
  • 3D TV – TVs that feature 3D- ready capabilities are quite common, although the excitement that followed this a few years ago has now died down. 3D TVs use the same technology as 3D movies: the TV simultaneously displays two images and your glasses will merge the image into one.
  • 4K / Ultra HD – If you have a high definition TV at home and you want to take it one step further, TVs that feature 4K or Ultra HD picture quality is for you. 4K features four times the detail of regular HD TVs. It doesn’t offer a new technology, but offers more pixels.
  • LCD – This is one of the most common types of TV. Liquid crystal display TVs have low range black level and don’t catch all the details of fast motion pictures. However, they are slim and very versatile.
  • LED – LED televisions are really LCD TVs that use with Light Emitting Diodes to light up, instead of CCFLs. They do offer certain advantages or new features. Because this is a new technology, they can be pricier than older models.
  • OLED TV – Organic light emitting diode sets’ backlight is produced by passing an electric current through an emissive, electroluminescent film. This technique produces better colours and higher contrast. It also allowsscreens to be extremely thin and flexible. This is considered the holy grail display technology.
  • Plasma – Plasma uses a technology that allows it to provide smooth fast motion pictures and deeper contrast than an LCD TV. Plasma TVs can come in very large and slim units that are easy to mount. However, the black level is quite low, and the TV has a short life span.
  • Rear Projection – RPTVs are best for use in very dark rooms. While it is a pricey choice, the image projected is excellent. It is also lightweight and easy to move.
  • Black Level – A TV’s ability to produce black color is called “black level” and is one of the most important factors that affect a TV’s value. The higher a TV’s black level is, the sharper the pictures are and the better the picture quality.
  • Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) – CRT screens have been around since the advent of TV history and are considered very reliable even today. This type of TV has a curved screen, allowing viewing from different angles while maintaining picture quality. However, because of the curved screen, there is a higher amount of glare when light reflects on the curved portion of the glass screen. CRT TVs usually have a longer life span, but can be heavy and bulky and come in limited sizes.
  • Curved TV – Several manufacturers have started making TVs with slightly curved screens. What makes it unique though is that the curve is inwards instead of outwards. This technology makes every pixel equidistant from your eyes, delivering a better picture. However, the curve will start affecting the geometry of the images if you sit far enough to one side of the screen.
