Outside The Wire

Set in the near future, Outside The Wire stars Damson Idris as Harp, a US drone operator stationed in Eastern Europe fighting a war. He’s assigned to work with Leo, an android officer, and together they must seek out nuclear codes before the enemy does. A question about the uses of AI technology threads nicely through the action in this explosive thriller.

We Can Be Heroes

This new release is directed by From Dusk Till Dawn director and father of five Robert Rodriguez, but this family-friendly film is a change of pace to his previous movies. When alien invaders kidnap the Earth’s superheroes, their children team up to rescue them, and learn how to hone their superpowers (from elasticity to time control) along the way.

Instant Family

Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne star in this comedy about a married couple who take on three foster children only to find they’ve bitten off a bit more than they can chew. There are a host of hilarious characters sewn into the plotline; watch out for Karen and Sharon, the adoption agency owners, as well as Mrs Howard played by the scene stealing Joan Cusack.

Assassin’s Creed

This action-packed thriller stars Michael Fassbender as Cal Lynch, a descendant of a warrior part of an assassin brotherhood. Cal travels back to the 15th Century where he fights to defend free will from the power crazed Templar Order. Transformed by his experiences in the past, Cal hones his knowledge and physical skills to battle the oppressors in the present.

Tag

Five friends have been playing a game of “tag” for 30 years, but when Jerry (Jeremy Renner) gets married, he decides its time to bow out. His four friends, however, have other ideas, and go to extreme lengths to target Jerry which is when hilarity ensues. With Ed Helms (The Hangover) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) in the supporting cast, this brilliant buddy comedy based on a true-life story is funny and heartwarming.

Pinkfong & Baby Shark’s Space Adventure

If you’ve got under 5s in the house, you’re probably familiar with Baby Shark creator Pinkfong and their repetitive ear worm soundtrack. In this fun animation, Pinkfong and Babyshark go on an adventure through space visiting mysterious planets looking for a special star.

Crack: Cocaine, Corruption and Conspiracy

Told across 8 episodes, this new documentary examines cocaine’s shadowy origins, explains how it tore across American inner cities during the 1980s and the resultant ongoing marginalisation of the very people victimised by its terrible destruction. With personal stories from former dealers and users, this is a stark look at one of America’s greatest failures, the effects of which are still felt today.

Rambo

A film series that needs little introduction, Rambo is a stone-cold classic. In this, the fourth in the run, Sylvester Stallone stars as our hero John Rambo, who ventures into war-torn Burma to rescue aid workers kidnapped by local soldiers. Expect guns, explosions, excessive violence and satisfying one-liners.

Morning Glory

TV producer Becky (Rachel McAdams) is desperate for a job, so when Jerry (Jeff Goldblum) offers her a job on the struggling “Daybreak” she’s delighted… however she didn’t bargain for having to fire co-hosts or manage the giant ego that is news reporter Mike (Harrison Ford). Will she be able to keep her dream job with her sanity intact?

Self/Less

When billionaire Damien (Ben Kingsley) discovers he has cancer, he uses his fortune to go through a radical process where his consciousness is transferred to a healthy body (Ryan Reynolds). With the procedure complete, he starts a new life, only to be plagued by disturbing visions. When he digs deeper into his new body’s former life, he’s led down a terrifying path in this mysterious thriller.
